Home Modification Occupational Therapy Alliance’s Journey to Business Growth

Karen Koch, owner of Home Modification Occupational Therapy Alliance (HMOTA), is one of the 2024 South Haven Regional Business Hub (HUB) Growth Series participants. She was intrigued by the opportunity to learn and network and quickly realized the program’s value.

“I met Debi Howe, Executive Director of the HUB at a local event and she told me about the Growth Series,” Karen shared. “I looked into it and it seemed like just what we needed to move to the next level. We were excited about having access to resources and mentors.”

One of Karen’s favorite aspects of the program was the growth wheel. “It’s very helpful in organizing and making things move,” Karen explained. While timing presented a challenge with the mentor aspect, she found the rest of the team, including mentor Michael Medema, and WMED Director Sandra Cochran, to be incredibly supportive and helpful.

“What we like is that  it has allowed us to meet people like these and tap into those who may have an interest in what we’re doing,” Karen continued. “It’s provided us with resources, like scholarships for legal and marketing, and mentors are available to help with things that aren’t our expertise.”

HMOTA, under Karen Koch’s leadership, is thriving. The company offers accessible home modification evaluations, design, and construction services. With over 2000 occupational therapists across the country, there’s a growing demand for their services. By combining research, experience, and a focus on task forces for different disabilities, HMOTA is able to provide comprehensive solutions nationwide.

As Karen advises other business owners, “If you want to grow and are serious about your business, you need to connect with resources. The Growth Series, and the HUB programming has definitely provided us with resources and helped us take our business to the next level.”
